Roy-Hart boys swim team earns 100th consecutive win

HS SWIMMING: Medina sweeps Wheatland-Chili

MIDDLEPORT —

MIDDLEPORT — Coach Bruce Matthews and the Roy-Hart boys swim program have been building quite a monster in the water for some time now.

But even the Rams' latest achievement is something that not many could have seen coming. In front of a capacity crowd at the Roy-Hart pool, the Rams won their 100th consecutive regular season meet on Tuesday evening, a 110-60 thrashing of Attica in a non-league contest.

Needless to say, Matthews was quite pleased afterwards.

"It was kind of neat to see all the alumni coming back, all the parents and all the fans," Matthews said. "Our times we're good, and we're looking great out there. We're coming together as a team."

As Matthews made his way up and down the sideline offering support to his swimmers throughout the meet, Roy-Hart started out strong and steadily built a lead that proved insurmountable. The team of Lyle Wagner, Evan Conley, Roy Phipps and Ray Sack struck first with victory in the 200 medley relay, and Nich DiNardo followed suit by winning the 200 freestyle.

Wagner won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, while DiNardo added the 500 freestyle to his resume. Roy Phipps took the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and Sack won the 100 butterfly.

The team of David Brooks, Mason Sparks, Conley and DiNardo won the 200 freestyle relay, and Tanner Rees won the 100 breaststroke.

Roy-Hart improves to 2-0 on the season.

"Some of our younger lineup is coming on strong," Matthews said. "We'll be ready for the league season."

Medina 122, Wheatland-Chili 38

MEDINA — Austin Heil led the Mustangs with wins in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, as Medina earned its first victory of the Aaron Moessinger era with a non-league victory over Wheatland-Chili on Tuesday evening.

Moessinger said he was pleased to see his squad bounce back so well from a loss at Alexander last week, as Medina jumped out of the gate strong and defeated Wheatland-Chili in all three relay races, illustrating strong team chemistry at this early mark of the season.
