Albion High School graduate Paige Golden, a senior volleyball star at Keuka College who plays outside hitter, has been named to the 2013 All-North Eastern Athletic Conference first team. This marks the third consecutive season that Golden has earned the honor.

Golden, who challenged Keuka career records for spiking kills and digs over the course of her career, finished with 1,075 kills and 1,457 digs overall. She currently ranks first all-time at Keuka in kills, and second to teammate and classmate Taylor Smith in digs.

Golden played under veteran coach Ann Capacci at Albion, and was one of the top contributors for the Lady Purple Eagles during her time in high school, Capacci said.

Consequently, the accolades at the next level don’t surprise Capacci in the least. Capacci described Golden, who also played outside hitter while at Albion, as an intense player who embraced her role as a team leader.
“She was a fierce competitor,” Capacci said. “One of my best kids; she was a good reactor, had quick feet, and did a great job.”

Golden had double-digit kills in 19 matches for Keuka this season, and had double-digit digs on 21 occasions. She is a pre-med major, and a co-captain of the Keuka team.

A Kent native, Golden was a two-time All-Niagara-Orleans League first-team volleyball selection at Albion, where she also excelled at basketball and softball.

“She’s a remarkable person,” said Golden’s grandfather, Robert Golden of Kent. “As her grandfather, I particularly admire her abilities, fire and determination.”

Keuka went 9-1 in NEAC play this fall, sharing regular season co-championship honors with SUNYIT and Gallaudet. Keuka fell to SUNYIT in the NEAC semifinals earlier this month, despite a 12-kill, 23-dig effort from Golden.
