It was a good evening for local high school hoops teams on Friday. Barker earned a clean sweep, with the boys blasting Newfane 60-31 and the girls clipping the Lady Panthers by a 40-37 margin. The Roy-Hart boys squad earned its first victory of the season, escaping Wilson by a 52-51 margin.
Albion wrestling coach Keith Piccirilli earns 300th win
It was an eventful weekend for local high school sports teams, as N-O wrestling teams took part in a variety of early-season tournaments, while the non-league swimming schedule was in full force. Albion wrestling coach Keith Piccirilli earned his 300th coaching win as the Purple Eagles went 3-2 at the Depew Tournament, while Roy-Hart swimming kept rolling with a sweep of Wheatland-Chili. Roy-Hart girls basketball takes runner-up honors in own tournament
The Roy-Hart girls basketball team had a successful weekend in its own tournament, downing Bennett 61-55 on Friday night before hanging tough with Nichols in a 51-41 loss in Saturday's tournament championship. Also in local girls hoops, Lyndonville edged past Medina by a 28-21 margin.
Medina boys basketball downs Burgard, moves to 2-0
After a season-opening win over Oakfield-Alabama, the Medina boys basketball team picked up right where it left off in Friday night's 54-41 victory over Burgard. It was a total team effort for the Mustangs, just the way coach Tom Forrestel envisioned before the season.
Medina girls basketball falls at Pembroke, 37-20
The Medina girls basketball team played excellent defense early against Pembroke on Thursday night, limiting the Lady Dragons to just three points — and no field goals — in the first quarter. But the young Lady Mustangs squad couldn't generate a consistent attack, suffering a 37-20 defeat.
Albion boys basketball falls at Burgard
First-year coach Brennan Meakin and the Albion boys basketball team fought hard at Burgard on Wednesday evening, but came up just short in a 51-47 setback. Manny Thompson and Des Blackmon had 11 points apiece for the Albion squad, which is now 1-1 on the young season.
Medina boys basketball rolls past Oakfield in season opener
