Medina/Lyndonville merger proves successful in fall season
Last year, the Medina and Lyndonville school districts decided to merge for football and boys soccer, adding cross country and track and field for 2013. The merger has been a success so far, highlighted by the boys soccer team's recent march to the 2013 Section VI Class B-1 title.

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson and safety Aaron Williams made an appearance at an event hosted by the Niagara County Deputy Sheriff's Association Corrections and Dispatchers, in conjunction with the New York State Deputies Association, on Tuesday evening at the NCDSA Union Hall in Lockport.
Barker field hockey upends East Rochester in state quarterfinal
After a back-and-forth first half, the Barker field hockey team asserted control late in Saturday's Class C Far West Regional against East Rochester. The Lady Raiders scored on a goal by Erin Greenwald, assisted by Gabby Clare, with less than six minutes remaining. Barker moves on to face Cazenovia at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Class C state semifinals, at Cicero-North Syracuse HS in Cicero.
Barker cross country fares well in state meet
Led by Hayden Hathaway's 28th-place finish, the Barker boys cross country team wrapped up its fall season with a strong showing at the Class D state meet in Queensbury on Saturday afternoon.
Bills fall to Steelers, 23-10
The Buffalo Bills jumped out to a fine start against Pittsburgh but couldn't keep it up. Quarterback EJ Manuel struggled mightily, and the Bills fell, 23-10, to drop to 3-7 on the season.
All-N-O field hockey team announced
The Niagara-Orleans League all-league field hockey team was annnounced this week, highlighted by three first-team selections from Barker — Heather Mason, Olivia Denny and Melissa Grosshans. As the fall sports season winds down in the N-O league, it's a good time to point out the postseason successes of many local teams. Barker field hockey led the way — all the way into the state tournament — with the first round to be held Saturday afternoon in Medina.
Albion volleyball falls to Starpoint in Class B final
The Albion volleyball team finally met its match on Monday evening, falling in straight sets to No. 8 Starpoint in the Class B final. No. 2 Albion was led by Chanyce Powell, Aleah Foos, Brooke Wilson, Jasmyn Smith and coach Ann Capacci.

The Barker field hockey team weathered a rainstorm and a tough Eden team on Wednesday night, jumping out to a 2-0 halftime lead and resisting a late Eden surge for a 3-1 victory in the Class C championship.
