Orleans County YMCA Happenings

MEDINA — Here's what's going on this week at the Orleans County YMCA in Medina, with league results and commentary courtesy of the Y staff.

Fall Indoor Volleyball
We are coming down to the final weeks in volleyball. In the B division, teams fought for playoff position in every match. In our first match Heisenberg took on Bumpin Uglies. Heisenberg took the match 3-0 by a score of 75-47. Riley Welker had a strong performance, crushing the ball down with authority. He was on a rampage each game. Lindsay Froman gave a strong performance also but was unable to keep her team in it, as they fell to the stronger Heisenberg.
In our second match of the night, Bridget’s Bashers pushed for a higher seed in the playoffs as they defeated Job Corp 3-0 by a score of 75-56. Bridget Stopa wouldn’t let her team fall, shocking the crowd with countless diving saves. They are poised to make a run in the playoffs.
The last game was No. 1 seed Cupcakes taking on a rolling Victorious Secret. Ultimately, after an amazing comeback in game one, Cupcakes steamrolled to a 3-0 victory by a score of 75-52. VS captain Danny Anderson said afterwards, "We should have never lost that first game. That completely destroyed us. I know we can do better and I still believe in this team." Look for these two teams to have one final battle in the playoffs, where everything is on the line.
In C division, Shnoogadonks took on Just Us, winning 2-1 by a score of 76-60. Donks serves were just too much for Just Us, with the power-crushing force of every team member allowing them to take the lead and never look back in games one and three.
Main Liquor then played a doubleheader, starting against Misfits. Main Liquor looked dominant in the first outing, earning a 3-0 victory by a score of 75-48. With solid play, Mistfits had no idea what hit them. The games flew by, with great serving from Allison Zinkievich.

This looks a lot like downtown Medina, but it's actually a block of downtown Wellsville, where voters in 2006 rejected a village dissolution proposal that was put up jointly by the Wellsville village and town boards.
